    Aeroflot 2012

Welcome to the exciting super-Grandmaster Aeroflot 2012!  The "A" group was very strong with Caruana, Le Quang Liem, Sokolov, Bartel, Sasikiran, Akopian, Nepomniatchi, and many more.  When the smoke cleared as Malcolm Pein reports, the winning score was the relatively low 6.5/9. Mateusz Bartel of Poland was the surprise winner, edging out Anton Korobov and Pavel Eljanov on tie-break. Former FIDE World Champion Alexander Khalifman had his best result for years and ended 4th on tie break in the group of 5 players on 6/9 that included Fabiano Caruana. The rising star of Russian chess, Ian Nepomniachtchi, scored 50%.
